Hortifeeds Celebrates Continued Growth and Conservation at Corona Woods

In October 2024, Hortifeeds visited Rodge and Alison Brownlow’s woodland in Kettlethorpe, Lincolnshire, to observe the progress of Corona Wood, which was planted in 2021. Supported by a financial contribution from Hortifeeds , the woodland with 4,000 saplings has flourished over the past three and a half years. Additional trees, planted last year, have further enriched the site, enhancing its value for wildlife and the local ecosystem.

3000 additional trees

Located just a short walk from Hortifeeds’ headquarters, the woodland plays a vital role in local conservation efforts, providing a home for eight varieties of trees and shrubs, including oak, silver birch, small-leaved lime, juniper, hazel, and hawthorn - contributing to the development of a diverse and resilient woodland ecosystem.

The Brownlows, who have spent nearly four decades nurturing and expanding their woodland, have steadily grown their land to cover around 100 acres. Corona Wood, along with other woodlands they’ve planted over the years, contributes to both the environmental and aesthetic value of the region.

During this recent visit, Hortifeeds Managing Director Chris Norris observed the growth of the original trees, noting how well they have settled in since their planting three and a half years ago. The woodland has evolved rapidly, with the saplings now firmly established and new plantings from last year already taking root, continuing the Brownlows’ conservation work.

While Corona Wood remains a private space, the Brownlows offer guided walks to allow the local community to experience the area’s natural beauty and the positive impact of their conservation efforts. The woodland not only supports local wildlife but also helps reduce the impact of climate change by acting as a natural carbon sink.

The partnership between Hortifeeds and the Brownlows continues to demonstrate the importance of community-based conservation projects, with both parties committed to preserving the environment for future generations.
