Fytocell is an aminoplast which, when used in flake form as an additive in potting soils and composts, produces an ideal growing environment for roots. The result is stronger, more vigorous plants which can, potentially, be brought to market earlier.

Fytocell Flakes, mixed with potting compost, provide the following benefits:

Oxygen availability
Lack of oxygen in the root zone has a direct influence on root development and, subsequently, the uptake of nutrients and water. Because of the open cell structure, Fytocell Flakes help ensure that there is always good oxygen content throughout the pot – even if the substrate becomes saturated.

The result is more feeder roots, improved water and nutrient uptake and stronger, more vigorous plants.

Water Management
The addition of Fytocell to compost improves its ability to hold water whilst also improving drainage – reducing both time spent in watering and the volume of water used. In addition to improving the growing environment, Fytocell effectively reduces costs.

The water-holding properties also ensure that plants do not become too dry – an advantage when plants are transferred from the nursery through to wholesale and retail outlets. Even if the growing media drys out, Fytocell greatly improves the re-wetting of the compost.

Nutrient Retention
The facility to retain water effectively reduces loss of nutrients through leaching with the result that less nutrients are required. and costs are reduced.

Stronger Root Systems
The combined effect of improving the air / water balance is a stronger root system. More roots allow greater uptake of water and nutrients, resulting in healthier, more vigorous plants.

Peat Replacement
In addition to improving the growing environment for ornamentals, Fytocell Flakes are an ideal and cost-effective replacement for a healthy percentage of the peat in peat compost mixes which, given the increasing environmental lobby about the use of peat, is yet another advantage. Up to 20% of normal compost mixes can be replaced with Fytocell Flakes.

Biodegradable
Fytocell is an aminoplast and contains just organic elements. As such it is completely biodegradable.
