A professional approach to business has seen Tarleton based Ornamental Plants grow over the past twelve years into one of the country’s leading producers of hanging baskets and pack bedding plants.

The company’s emphasis on quality has enabled it to win many major contracts, including one to supply Homebase with hanging baskets. General Manager and company founder Colin Bowers and Production Manager Mick Brooks agree that tailor made nutrients from Hortifeeds have played a major part in helping to achieve this success.

“The excellent quality we are able to produce is a result of combining our in-house technical expertise and superb service with the quality product from Hortifeeds,” said Colin. Ornamental Plants is looked after by Hortifeeds Northern Sales Manager John Crinall and the company is currently supplying a specially blended High Nitrate soluble fertiliser, produced to suit the soft water at Ornamental Plants’ Tarleton site.



When it was formed in the mid-90s Ornamental Plants operated from two separate sites at Banks near Southport with a total of seven acres under glass. However, three years ago, on the back of its continuning success, the company moved all production to the more suitable glass at Tarleton and since arriving there the site has grown to an incredible eighteen acres.

The growing team of Mick Brooks, Alan Bretherton and Vic Harrop are backed up by 30 full time staff and up to 70 casual staff during peak production. The aim throughout is to ensure that they deliver quality plants and quality service to all their customers.

John Crinall said that Hortifeeds had been supplying fertilisers to the company for the past six years. “Through a close working relationship with Colin, Mick and the growing team at Ornamental Plants we have been able to produce and deliver fertilisers designed to meet their precise requirements throughout this period and we look forward to supporting the continued growth of the company in the future.”
